On March 26, at the TESOL 2026 International Convention & Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (Salt Palace Convention Center, March 24-27, 2026), colleagues and co-authors presented the methodology developed by Dr. Hanna Podosynnikova, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Head of the Department of English Philology and Linguodidactics, Head of the Inter-University Research Laboratory of Modern Technologies of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures, Vice President of TESOL Ukraine.
Though Dr. Podosynnikova could not attend in person, her work was represented at the international level by her wonderful colleagues:
- Prof. Olena Ilienko (O.M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv)
- Dr. Veronika Maliborska (Northeastern University, Boston, USA)
- Dr. Natalya Watson (Northeastern University, Boston, USA)
Their 45-minute presentation – "Film Club Methodology as Reflective Practice in Language Teacher Education" – was held on March 26, 2026, and introduced the English Teacher's Film Club to an international audience: a carefully developed, multi-purpose methodology that uses cooperative material design, guided film watching, reflective practice, and peer feedback to build the professional and communicative competence of future English teachers.
This methodology is the result of Dr. Podosynnikova's more than 10 years of dedicated work (since 2015) with students of the Student Research Laboratory of Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures. It has been implemented across numerous educational institutions throughout Ukraine and has already been presented to colleagues at multiple international conferences in Ukraine – long before reaching the global stage. Over this time, the methodology has proven its resilience and value in the most challenging of circumstances – most recently through the International Contest in Film-Based Essay Writing (2022-2025), which continued even during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
