Empowering Educators: Journaling for Growth and Wellness-Insights from Methodology Webinar

We are thrilled to share that on November 28th, the Department of English Philology and Linguodidactics at FISF, Sumy State Pedagogical University, in collaboration with the Inter-university Research Laboratory of TESOL Modern Technologies ( Associate Professor H.I. Podosynnikova) and with the invaluable support of the Regional English Language Office of the US Embassy and TESOL-Ukraine, hosted a methodological webinar on “Teacher Reflection Journaling for Professional Growth and Self-care”.

The session was led by the experienced American educator, Professor Tremonisha Putros, as part of the Virtual English Language Educator Program, coordinated by Associate Professor V.V. Kozlova.

Professor Tremonisha Putros expertly guided the session, incorporating her dynamic and engaging teaching style. She began by outlining the benefits of reflective journaling, drawing from her extensive experience in education and teacher development. Through thought-provoking questions and interactive discussions, she encouraged participants to explore how journaling could serve as a tool for both professional growth and self-care. Her use of real-life examples, storytelling, and active engagement created an inspiring and supportive learning environment, making the webinar both practical and motivational.

The webinar also highlighted insights from the study "English Teachers’ Perspective on Keeping a Teaching Journal as Their Professional Development" by Eka Yuni Kurniati, Devika Adelita, and Utami Dewi. The research demonstrated that keeping a teaching journal can:

  • Encourage a positive attitude toward teaching,
  • Enhance critical thinking among educators, and
  • Improve overall teaching quality.

Participants had the opportunity to practice reflection by journaling about:

✨One thing they are grateful for, and

✨ A concept or teaching strategy that resonated with them this semester.

This interactive session provided practical tools for professional growth and self-care, merging academic insights with hands-on learning.

We’re proud to continue empowering educators with opportunities like these to promote pedagogical excellence and well-being.
