Inter-university Teacher’s Day celebration at English Teacher’s Film Club

On October, 2, 2025, Inter-University Research Laboratory of Modern Technologies of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures (the Department of English Philology and Linguodidactics, Sumy State Pedagogical University) cordially invited students and teachers to join the Film Club session celebrate Teachers’ Day together with laughter, inspiration, and reflection on what it means to learn, teach, and grow.

The Lab members Vlada Homolia and Veronika Kolomiiets, the Secondary Education master programme students, held an online film club session based on the authentic animated cartoon film “Monsters University”. The moderator of the event was the Lab Head Hanna Podosynnikova, Ph.D., Head of the Department of English Philology and Linguodidactics.

The session united students of Sumy State Pedagogical University, specializing in A4 Secondary Education (English Language and World Literature), students of group 036 majoring in 291 International Relations, Public Communications, and Regional Studies led by Marina Chykalova, Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Practice, as well as students of T.H.Shevchenko National University “Chernihiv Colehium” headed by Svitlana Smolina, Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Philology and Educational Technologies.

The interactive video training session was conducted using the authorial methodology "Film Club for English Teachers," developed by H.I. Podosynnikova. The specially selected video fragments and instructive interactive tasks, that were carefully developed for the session, helped the participants not only to explore the educational, humorous, and inspiring aspects of the film but also to discuss challenges and motivation of teaching and learning connected to the celebration of Teacher’s Day. The key topics addressed included:

  • the role of teachers and mentors in shaping students’ dreams;
  • how support and guidance foster personal growth;
  • the importance of teamwork, leadership, and mutual respect in education;
  • learning from mistakes as a way toward progress and innovation;
  • recognizing teachers as role models who help students unlock their true potential.

The session was interactive and inspiring, encouraging students to reflect on the value of education, intercultural communication, and professional growth. It also highlighted how cinema can be used as a powerful tool for developing cultural awareness and fostering respect for the teaching profession.

The event became not only a celebration of Teacher’s Day, but also a reminder of the essential role teachers play in guiding future generations toward success.
